Magnet Therapy (Imanoterapia)

Magnet therapy, or magnetic therapy, involves the use of static magnetic fields for therapeutic purposes. According to magnet therapy practitioners, subjecting specific parts of the body to magnetostatic fields produced by permanent magnets has beneficial effects on health. The use of magnets for therapeutic purposes dates back to the 4th century BC and gained popularity in the 15th century thanks to Swiss physician and alchemist Paracelsus, who held that magnets could attract diseases and remove them from the body. Today, magnet therapy can be administered by a healthcare professional, or used by individuals for self-treatment.

During treatment, static magnets or pulsed electromagnetic fields are applied to the areas of the body affected by illness, or to the entire body. There are a variety of devices which can be implanted in the body or used externally to deliver pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. In the case of self-treatment, there are magnets of different sizes and strengths available for use. Individuals may purchase self-adhesive magnetic strips, belts, necklaces, and bracelets. There are also shoe insoles, mattress pads and blankets, and magnetized water. Magnet therapy is said to have a positive effect on circulation, improving blood circulation and increasing the oxygen content in the blood, and relaxing the muscles. This form of therapy is therefore used for a series of conditions, from pain and fractures to ringing of the ears.
