IRECA stands for Instituto di Ricerca Sull´Energia Cosmica Applicata (Research Institute on Applied Cosmic Energy) based in Rome, Italy. It consists of a technique which allows individuals to harmonize the body’s energy fields so that physical, emotional, and mental wellness can be achieved. IRECA proponents believe that the body has centers of energy which receive and transmit cosmic energy, or the energy of the Universe. These centers influence people's relationships with the outer world as well as the physical organs and physiological functions related to them. Any disturbance in these centers is thus translated into physical, emotional, and mental imbalance which gives rise to symptoms.

Each session is quite short, lasting a total of about five minutes. During IRECA treatment, the practitioner applies energy to the body's seven energy centers so that balance may be restored. In doing so, the practitioner does not use his or her own energy, but rather acts as a bridge between cosmic energy and the client's internal energy. The practitioner places his or her hands on specific energy centers depending on the health problem being treated, or on the centers responsible for the body's general wellbeing. After the first couple of applications, physical symptoms begin to diminish and clients begin to better cope with stress. Because of its rebalancing nature, the IRECA technique may be used on a daily basis to maintain health.
