Holistic nursing is all nursing practice directed at healing the whole person. A whole-person approach to nursing involves considering the physical, emotional, social, nutritional, environmental, spiritual, and lifestyle aspects of the patient. As with all holistic practitioners, holistic nurses understand disease to be the result of physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and environmental imbalance. Holistic nurses use all necessary therapies to take care of the patient’s mind, body, and spirit. They may integrate complementary and alternative modalities into clinical practice to treat the patient as a whole and help the patient access his or her healing capabilities.
