Floatation Tanks (Tanques de flotación)

Floatation, or float therapy, is a method of releasing stress whereby the individual is submerged in a salt solution that enables him or her to float on the surface. It creates the illusion of floating in the air. Developed in the United States, this therapy allows every muscle in the body to relax and balances the brain. Floating is said to promote peaceful relaxation, improve sleep, alleviate stress, and rejuvenate. It also stimulates left/right brain synchronization, creating mental clarity, alertness, and awareness. It is used to relieve depression, anxiety and fear, and treat addictions. Floating also improves circulation and distribution of oxygen and nutrients and reduces blood pressure. It further relieves pain from arthritis and migraines.

The session involves the client floating in a tank specially designed to eliminate all outside distractions such as sight, sound, and gravity. A large amount of Epsom salt is added to the water to create buoyancy, and the water is warmed to create a relaxing atmosphere. After the session, there follows a shower to remove the salt from the skin.
