Bioenergetics (Bioenergetica)

Bioenergetics, or Bioenergy medicine, is a form of body-psychotherapy based on the continuity between the body and the mind. Bionergetics combines a bodily, analytic, and relational therapeutic work based on an understanding of the energy processes within the body to help the individual solve emotional problems and realize his or her potential. Unlike orthodox medicine, it treats the body from an energetic rather than a purely chemical perspective. By doing this, it is possible to assess energetic imbalances or pre-disease conditions before the cellular or chemical changes have taken place, and thus reverse the condition before symptoms appear.

According to Bionergetics, when the body is first exposed to a toxin, virus, or emotional stress, the tissue’s normal electromagnetic frequency becomes abnormal. This abnormality or energetic imbalance can make the individual feel fatigued most of the time and, if it continues for a long period of time, negative chemical changes begin in the tissues. The body reads negative emotional reactions and stores them as muscle tension and stiffness, poor posture, and low energy levels. To release these trapped emotions and return the body and mind to a balanced, healthy, peaceful state, patients must release muscle tension and correct physical imbalances. Through psychotherapy, relaxation techniques, and gentle touch, it is possible to relieve this muscle tension.

The bionergetics therapist uses techniques to address the energetic aspect of the patient and together they work with body contact, boundaries, and understanding of muscular tensions as indications of somatic and psychological reactions against past trauma. The therapist reads the patient's muscular movements, tone of voice, breathing, posture, and emotions to determine his or her physical and psychological problems. Therapists believe that by balancing electrical and energy disturbances within the patient and eliminating toxins, the body will heal itself. They help the patient in the healing process by using a combination of psychotherapy, gentle body movements, massage, deep breathing, and exercises that involve crying, screaming, and kicking to help patients release all emotional memories.
