It seems that society is immersed in a global war for oil and socio-economic power. This is something we can feel deep within us, in our daily lives.
But this war for power is not new; it was also fought by the Spaniards when they reached Mayan land.
The Mayas knew that if the Sun would stop shining, human life would cease to be, and therefore they offered the Sun God human sacrifices. When the Spaniards came here, they were horrified by this strange custom which they called “pagan, barbaric, and satanic”. They were horrified, and yet the Inquisition did the exact same thing in the name of God.
The Spaniards tried to annihilate any trace of that culture by destroying documents of great cultural value, libraries, and books.
Why did one of the most advanced cultures, both physically and spiritually speaking, left us prophetic messages engraved in stone while at the same time their artists, inhabitants, rulers, and warriors all disappeared?
Could it be because those who did not die of hunger, sickness, or slavery were forced to convert to catholicism, a religion that was foreign to them?
This great civilization, whose temples and cities in great part lie buried in the Yucatan peninsula, had a futuristic vision which they reflected in their homes, their artwork, pottery, and especially their calendar, a noble wonder and their greatest work.
It is much more precise than the Gregorian calendar we use today, and in it they showed their knowledge of time which they believed was cyclical. When a cycle is over, they believed, the planet’s magnetic field suddenly changes, with serious consequences to life on land, water, and sky, resulting in a new cycle of life.
This last cycle began the year 3113 B.C. and will end on the 12-12-2002.
The Mayas had 2 calendars, one of 365 days and the other of only 260, to include a period of 52 years, at the end of which they would climb the nearest mountains to look at the Pleiades Stars, their signs and cyclical variations, to make sure that the heavens would continue their natural movement and the sun would rise as always.
Each day of the year had two different names, one for each calendar, so that the union of names would not be the same within a period of 52 years.
Though they may seem a puzzle to researchers of our day, these calendars also give us a warning as to what is happening and will happen from now on. They warn us of our possible demise, but also give us hope that we will find a new path to tread, should we make the necessary changes on time. For these changes to take place, we must consider the image of the mother and the woman- a female era is beginning, and we will find a subtle difference in our change in attitude.
An old Chinese legend tells of an apprentice who asked his master what the difference between heaven and hell was, to which the master kindly replied, “the difference is very subtle, and can be barely perceived, but if you observe closely, you will be able to understand.” Having said this, they headed towards hell, where they found a large group of people who looked famished and were seated around a table, desperate, holding a long wooden spoon. The spoon reached the kettle filled with rice for them to eat, but because to the length of this utensil, the rice could not reach the people’s mouths, and thus their anguish was terrible.
Having witnessed this, master and apprentice proceeded towards heaven. There, too, they found a large group of people sitting around a table, with a large wooden spoon that reached a kettle full of rice. But in this scene the people seemed happy, with full stomachs.
And the apprentice said, “I don´t understand how under the same conditions, the people in heaven seem happy and content whereas the people in hell feel suffering and desperation.” To this the master said, “It´s all in the attitude. In hell, there is nothing but selfishness, and the people there worry about feeding themselves, whereas in heaven the people realize they cannot feed themselves due to the length of the spoon, and therefore decide to feed each other.”
To realize that our knowledge is ignorance is an internal noble comprehension. To consider our ignorance as knowledge is a mental weakness. Lao-Tsé.
